3 Reasons Why It's Better To Buy New Tires Rather Than Used

Posted on

If your car is in need of a tire -- or even a set of tires -- you might be thinking about going the used route rather than buying a new set. The cost of new tires can be a turn-off for many, but buying from a new tire sales company than a used one is better. These are the main reasons why.

1. New Tires Come With Guarantees

In many cases, new tires come with guarantees. If your tires wear out before they should, you should be able to replace them for free or at a reduced cost. This is not the case with most used tires, so if the tire fails the very same day that you buy it, you are out of luck. In some cases, new tire purchases also come with lifetime balancing and rotation, which can help you extend the life of the tire.

2. You Don't Know if the Tires Were Misused

The thing about used tires is that you don't really know if they were taken care of properly before you purchased them. Someone might have driven them while they were underinflated or overinflated, which can put them more at risk of failing. Since it is you and your loved ones' lives at risk when it comes to your tires, it just isn't worth the risk. By buying new tires, you will know about their history -- since they have none -- and you will be able to take good care of them from the start.

3. It's Not Always Easy to Spot Problems

You might think that you can look over used tires and determine if they are in good condition or not. Although you can obviously look for things like tread wear, however, you can't always spot problems. This is particularly true if you don't have a lot of experience with tires. For example, the tire could have been damaged when it was being removed from the rim, and you might not see this type of damage, which can make your car more prone to a flat tire. There may be a plug on the inside of the tire that you can't see. When you buy new, it doesn't matter that you might not know much about inspecting  tires, since you won't have anything to worry about.

As you can see, it's typically better to buy new tires rather than used. If you are looking to invest in tires, shopping online and comparing prices can help you save money while still allowing you to buy new.
